Joan Shifflett spoke at the June Breathmatters meeting about After Care for Lung Disease Sufferers, and about the general problems of identifying quality care service for patients, senior citizens and their families. Using her experience as a owner of Always Best Care Senior Services, she described the advantages and the possible pitfalls for patients dealing with medical issues coupled with a desire to stay in one's home for as long as possible, if not indefinitely when using the appropriate strategies.

Discussion included a general survey of costs for varieties of assisted care facilities, types of living arrangements, staying at home costs, and the dilemma of working with medicaid and medicare when facing after care costs.
