It’s a sad day when one of the best succumbs to a non-treatable disease…Pulmonary Fibrosis. A disease once thought to be rare when I was diagnosed in October of 2000, now kills 40,000 people yearly with active rolls of over 200,000 in the United States alone. Sadly, this disease currently has no specific meds for treatment and very little research is underway. Side- by side, David and I fought gallantly against this disease with just one another’s willingness to take on all odds. David even made the trip to Maryland to testify before the FDA
David and I met in the early 90’s but did not really get to know each other well until we discovered that we shared the same lung disease in June of 2005. That October we were asked to become co-facilitators in Richmond’s lung disease support group that later became BREATH MATTERS, a lung disease support group in central Virginia.
I found David to be just as he presented himself. He was kind, generous, forthright, and above all, a true gentleman. After he officially resigned from the board of BREATH MATTERS, I continued to seek his council. He was devoted to our members and concerned about their health and the health of BREATH MATTERS.
Our community has lost a great man who kept his accomplishments below the radar, but his character was always well above the norm. David, the way you lived your life has taught us to be better than we are. I will miss you my dear friend, your teaching, guidance, and unfailing compassion for others.
With all my love,
Russell Glover
